How Physical Media Changes How We Think
Curated by Meg Birmingham
In the last few weeks, I’ve been having conversations with students and adults alike about how physical materials deepen learning and engagement for some people, which has led me down a fantastic rabbit hole about why that may be the case. Luckily, some people over at Frontline BeSci were looking into the same. According to their article, because of the amount of digital media we consume, “while we see more than ever, perhaps we process less… In other words, while exposure is high, meaning is thin.” Seeing, touching, and interacting with physical media (learning materials included) can prevent us from living on autopilot, gets us to slow down and actually consider the thing we’re interacting with, and gets us to be more hands on-minds on. Pretty neat, huh?
